Homeopathy Board Certification and Licensure, Step by Step Guide
How to get your Board Certification (CHP) through NAHE and Professional License (LHP) through AHIME
The HPLEX serves for both the CHP Certification through NAHE, and the LHP License through the Arizona Board of Homeopathic and Integrated Medical Examiners (AHIME).
The LHP License is available to applicants who graduated from an ACHENA accredited school, OR another school approved by AHIME, and who have passed an exam approved by AHIME. Currently, approved exams are the HPLEX and the CHC exam.
The CHP Certification is completely separate of the LHP License and exists as an additional credential available to ACHENA school graduates.
NAHE strongly encourages all eligible practitioners to pursue Professional Licensure (LHP) to further enhance their credibility and elevate the profession. The CHP Board Certification is also a valuable and important credential representing the highest standards of practice in homeopathy. Practitioners are free to obtain and maintain the credential(s) that best align with their practice and professional goals.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to have the CHP Certification in order to obtain the LHP Professional License?
No. The LHP License is available to applicants who graduated from an ACHENA school, OR another school approved by the Arizona Board of Homeopathic and Integrated Medical Examiners (AHIME), and who have passed an exam approved by AHIME. Currently, approved exams are the HPLEX and the CHC exam.
Applicants who graduated from an ACHENA accredited school and who pass the HPLEX are additionally eligible for CHP Board Certification through NAHE.
Why is the HPLEX more affordable compared to other certification exams?
NAHE recognizes that graduates of accredited homeopathy programs have already made substantial financial and intellectual investments in their education and professional development. The cost of sitting for the board exam should not be an additional burden.
The HPLEX was thoughtfully developed by Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) within the homeopathy community, including educators, clinical supervisors from accredited programs, experienced practitioners, and exam writers. The exam’s content is aligned with the widely accepted Standards for Homeopathic Education and Competencies for the Professional Homeopathic Practitioner to ensure it reflects the highest industry standards.
What is the format and duration of the HPLEX?
The HPLEX consists of 100 multiple-choice questions and has a two-hour time limit. Since this exam is exclusively available to graduates of accredited programs, candidates have already demonstrated their knowledge, skills, and clinical competence through their education. The HPLEX primarily assesses an individual’s understanding of homeopathic principles as they relate to safe and effective practice, with a strong emphasis on client safety.
What is the difference between Certification and Licensure?
Licensure plays a crucial role in elevating the field of homeopathy in the U.S., as it is a state-sanctioned credential recognized and trusted by consumers. Licensure provides legal protection for clients, offers legal recourse, and grants practitioners the right to practice homeopathy within the licensing state.
Certification enhances a practitioner’s credibility and contributes to the legitimacy of the profession. However, it is not state-sanctioned and does not confer the legal right to practice homeopathy.
Regardless of certification or licensure status, practitioners must always adhere to the laws and regulations governing homeopathy in their respective states.
What are the Professional License (LHP) eligibility requirements?
- Graduation from an ACHENA accredited homeopathy training program (or another program approved by AHIME)

What are the Board Certification (CHP) eligibility requirements?
